Shall I have my hair braided?

I have very long fair straight hair, i am horrible at up-dos. Should i have it braided for some time?

I look funny too, i have a very fair complexion, but if it was darker, i would look like a black or mulatto girl, because of my kinda round nose, shape of the eyes and lips.

Also i wonder if braiding would harm my hair.

I am just wondering, really need advice.

Well if ur white and ur hair is fine u should NOT do it, a lot of white women make this same mistake when they go on vacation.Most people braid the scalp and not the hair that means when u see those girls w/ every single strand pulled so hard it looks like they can't blink and u get little bumps all around.when u braid the hair right that will not happen and synthetic hair will choke the hair shaft and the hair it self.And the oil u need to use is called WILD GROWTH OIL all u need is about 4 or 5 drops in the palm of ur hand rub it in ur scalp and hair and do this 4 the next 5 months and only trim ur hair every 5 months so u can see the new growth. e-mail me or im and let me know how it gos.

Braiding does cause some damage, so it is not best for white hair texture. And it doesn't stay as long. I'd say all out no.

braiding can be an great style for an extended period of time. the process can take some time and therefore wearing the style would be best to keep it more than a day or two considering the time to endure while your being done. small braids can be very sexy also.

I recently took out my microbraids and my hair was tangled and knotted when I washed it. Not to long ago I had cornrows (which was in January). get some leave in conditioner spray, and spray that on your hair everyday, that way your hair dosent break off as easily when you take out your braids, and it will help with the tangles

I find that when Afro hair is wet it is easy to deal with if you wet it and use an Afro comb and comb the ends of your hair working your way up u should be cool.you can also buy sprays for tangled hair that do work.But I don't know why your hair tangles when braided my hair is braided all the time and never tangles.

first question?...do you supply your own hair or does your braider get it for you? Next: before washing: use a boar bristle brush to make sure there are no tangles before wetting it down , don't just wet your hair and pile it on top of your head to wash it, more like using a neutralizing shampoo after a perm. Use a good leave on conditioner to comb through . Start at the bottom near the neck and slowly work up the head. I've dealt with a few of those Don King issues in the salon. Full head weaves that turned into 1 solid dreadlock. If this doesn't help you, I would opt for better hair.

Hi, I used baby oil. I saturated my head with baby oil and just kept combing. Start combing with a wide tooth comb at the bottom and work your way up. little at a time. Be Patient and go easy they will loosen up. I also waited about 5 minutes before I started combing.Let the oil saturate first. Or comb your hair with water running over it. They say not to do that but it works and sometimes you have no choice.

The weave will protect your hair from day-to-day elements. You know, heat, sun, weather etc.. and make the braids last longer.

If your hair is that long you can plan on sitting there for quite a while, especially if you want micro braids.If you are leaving some of the hair loose (not braided to the end) make sure you are washing and conditioning your hair often to keep your natural hair from drying and and splitting. Also, braiders sometimes clip the hair that is sticking out of the braids to clean it up at the end. If you have freshly had your ends clipped you want to be careful on just how much she wants to "clean up" (she could be clipping quite a lot). You probably want it braided because you like the style and want the manageability, so go for it.

why would ou want to put weave in if u already got long hair? it makes no sense unless you're gonna get something which looks completely different from your natural hair, or u jus want to braid in order to give ur natural hair a break from processing, chemicals etc.

depends on the size of your head and where you go.it can take any where from 31/2 hours to 8 hours. i went to an african hair braiding salon and 2 girls braided my hair at the same time. one worked on the front and the other on the back. i suggest that u take a couple of tylenols before you go to ease the pain because some people braid tighter than others. i would start in the middle of my hair towards the back when taking them out because you will get tired and if you have to go somewhere before you finish taking them out you will be able to pull your hair back into a ponytail without anyone noticing that u arent finished. and i would definately get help taking them out!!!

When I got ready to take those out, it took about 3 days. Also, make sure you check to see if the person is a good braider. Just because the person is fast doesn't make them good. U don't want braids spilling out as soon as u get up from the floor, (chair, whatever). There was this one time, I had braid coming out of my head 3 to 5 at a time. That defeated the whole purpose of me sitting there all that time getting them done. But, it also depends on the type of hair you decide to use too. Wet 'n Wavy is better in my opinion. Good luck, and I hope u're very patient. No matter who does it or how fast they say they are, expect to be sitting for no less then 5 hours.

Go to your local African American hair salon. Other then that, go to a school based hair salon. Do yall have GillTech hair school down there? Go to any of those suggested places and ask for a scalp treatment. They will supply your head with a hot oil treatment and I don't know exactly what it's called, but they add some sort of cream to your hair so that it grows better and quicker. The stars use that cream stuff--it's why their hair is long and our's isn't. They rather us not knowing about so that their hair can remain longer so we can idolize our wigs to be like theirs.

wow thats crazy!! I am in California, and got the same braids,mine only cost 85 dollars to get it done, and 15 maybe for the hair. And mine lasted 3 months! If she did it in her home, no. But if she did it in a salon, that is something different. They are licensed in a salon. I got mine done in a home though. I would talk to the manager, if you got it done in a salon. You should try and get a refund or something at least. In a salon, they should be more professional and care about their reputation.

Do guys get hair extensions? I'm trying to get my hair to grow faster and i've been told getting it braided with extensions helps by pulling at the roots...is this true? If not...is there a way to make my hair grow faster. It's not even an inch thick yet so i know it couldn't even get braided...i'm just trying to find out the quickest way. I know what you mean, I know that guys can get extentions for cornrows because on an old MTV show where they make people look like a celebrity group I remember a guy needed to look like Omarion or something and they gave him extention cornrows. But if you want braids badly, just go to a shop where they do cornrows/weaves they will hook you up. The only thing is if people you know see you one week with short hair then cornrows the next they might know you have extentions but if that doesn't matter I'd get them.

too my knowledge, braiding could have a negative effect if done too often. Remember that black people's hair require lots of treatment therefore when it is braided, it is not comb and won't get enough treatment. In addition, braids can be too tight pulling the hair from the roots too much. Have you notice that people who braid their hair too much have no hair line. My advice is to do it in moderation. In addition, give your hair a break from time to time and do lots of conditioning. Make sure that you don't have any vitamin deficiency. I have noticed that they have vitamins specifically for hair/nails perhaps look into that and also see a dermatologist they deal with hair issues as well. I wish you the best of luck and a head full of hair.

Hair shrinks as it dries, if it is pulled back and braided tight than as it dries your hair could shrink enough to pull tight enough to cause breakage. Hair should always be braided dry. in both pictures those guys look like they have naturally curely hair, so if you have naturally curely hair then yes, if not you will have to go to a salon and get whats called a straw set, find a salon that does natural hair styles and they will know what to do, take the pictures with you.

Braided as in those stuck to your head (corn rows), normally are priced depending on your length and if you want to have a specific style like zig zag or something. For me my hair is down to my waist and they charge me 20$ (then again I live in Puerto Rico and everyone does this). They don't come out frizzy they will come out straight, Unless you braid your hair to the ends of the weave and dip them in water. When you take the ends down they will be curly.

i don't understand what you are trying to do. however, when i had my hair braided with synthethic hair, i dipped it in hot water to soften the braids and make them look more natural. the ends were braided up so there was no need to worry about straight or frizzy hair to began with. why do you want to have straight ends when your hair is braided anyways? just have your mom braid the hair all the way down to the ends, then put your braids in hot water.

Well after she dips it i the boiling water you can put gel on the ends to keep it from frizzing but it should not frizz after you dip it in the water also I have heard of people using baby oil but I think you can use any kind of oil on the ends to keep it from frizzing also after you mom has finished just ask her to cut off all the frizz. It depends on the braid. If you do 2 (on the sides) it is easier to do it yourself, but if it is in the back it is easier on someone else.

Think this through. When your hair falls naturally it is down to your armpit line. When you braid it you twist it around, so it is no longer going in a straight line to your armpit. It's taking a detour. Think of a string that you can lay (straight and tight) on your keyboard from the "A" to the "L." If you now bend that string and make it go across the "7" key, it will no longer be able to touch both the A and the L.

You know, the whole "shortest distance between two points is a straight line" thing. :D

no theres nothing wrong. when you braid your hair you're bending it around other bits of hair, so it gets scrunched up. So imagine that your hair is just down and you scrunch it up to crimp it or something and it gets shorter because your holding it. same thing.

It depends on the person who does your hair and how skilled he/she is. Some people can braid 1/2 inch hair, but for most people it has to be at least an inch to 2 inches. I have my hair braided all the time, and my hair at the shortest part in the back is 1 1/2 inches. Hope this helps!

The question is how short and is it shaved in the back??? If you have a short hairstyle with a shaved back then no I wouldn't suggest braids just yet. But if you just have short hair with the back at a reasonable length then I don't see why not. If you want to have braids I would suggest Human Hair Micro Braids because you can do anything with them as far as styling goes. Classic Updo's, ponytails, and just plain cute and sexy down with curls. I love Micro Braids for this reason because it is low maintenance with versatility!!!

Although... you may need to look into the flea market, because sometimes to open up shop in one of them you must purchase some sort of licence.

If you ever want to work in a salon, however, most salon's require you to have graduated from a beauty school.

Another thing is if you are selling products, you may need to call or go to the website. With some products it is illegal to buy it from a store and then sell it on your own to make a larger profit.

This depends on how much money you are willing to spend. If you have endless money, go to the best salon that you can find and get real hair.

If you are strapped for money, then go with 'Yankee' hair. If you don't want your hair damaged or pulled, then simply ask the professional to braid it loose enough that it won't fall out, corn rows will be the lease damaging.

Be sure they are using products for the braiding process such as gels, creams, and oils if you need them. Deeply condition before the process and if it is done good, you can leave it in for up to 2 months.

Well has they always say you get what you pay for. You can get cornrows ,it won't last as long but will cost a little less then micros or medium size braids. Those cost a bit more but will last longer .As far as hair quality, you can use synthetic hair, for the cornrows or human. It 's all in the price and quality difference and how much you can afford same rules for the braids but the human hair looks better and it definitely last longer.

I am an African American female who is considering joining the navy. I am not at all vain but I know that if I wear my hair down for several months in addition to regular swimming it will fall out and not grow back. I have several bald or balding female relatives as evidence. I want to know if you can wear hair braids (extensions) at boot camp if they are regulation length. Really want to join the navy. Think it is the best branch no offense to the others but I do not want to make myself bald for it.

Yes you can, but you need to get all the female hair regulations from your recuiter. Just so you know also, your extensions will grow out before you are done with boot camp and then you will need to cut them off. Then what are you going to do. I saw this first hand when I was in boot camp. Black females did not have an easy time of things with their hair while in training. You do have different needs as far as hair care goes and you can take care of these issues to a certain extent. If you do do this make sure your hair extensions are short and small. You have to wear a hat everyday almost all day and if this baseball style hat doesn't work with the uniform you will be forced to get a hair cut. 9 weeks is a long time to deal with hair issues so do your research on the subject. Type in Navy Uniform Regulations into your search engine and look up female hair regulations. There is nothing fancy allowed, especially in boot camp. Straight rows, no fashion styled parting, just basic corn rows without beads or colored rubberbands, pony tails or clips You are also not allowed to bring wax, oils or perming supplies with you. It is a hard task to figure out, but the more you know the better your time at boot camp. The Navy is the best, but the other branches are just as tough on female hair issues.

Microbraiding takes 8-12 hours at a salon for one person, and even cornrows can take 2-6 per person depending on the length of course. If you aren't satisfied with the results, don't pay her a lot. Really good hair braiding can be $175+ depending, again, on the length, style, etc. I say just pay her what you think it's worth.

It's really hard to explain in writing, but I can try. With french braiding your own hair, it's practice, practice, practice, but one you get the hang of it, it's easier to do your own than someone else's.

Starting at the top of your head, use your thumbs to pull up equal sections of hair from the sides of your head in front of your ears so that you have like a mini ponytail on top of your head.

Divide that into three sections and begin the braid (right portion over center portion to become new center portion, left portion over center portion to be new center portion).

Holding what you have so far with your left hand, pull up a new section of hair with your right. Add that section of hair to the current right portion and place over center to be new center section. Then hold that section with your right hand and repeat on the left side.

Continue to the bottom until all your hair is in the braid.

This probably made no sense but it's really hard to explain in writing.

Best place to get hair braided in Philly?

I am really trying to get my hair braided soon. I want some kinky twists or senegalese twists as a surprise for my hubby. I live in Jersey and am looking for a good place in Philadelphia, Trenton, or Camden to get it done. Any ideas??

I am a biracial girl... mixed black/.white/spanish.. so it's very hard to find something suitable for my hair... I have found that keeping it in braids works the best for me and is the easiest, since I really don't know how to take care of my hair all that well. I typically do styles like Alicia Keys... with all of the zig zags and what not. I am going to take these out and redo them this weekend, but need help deciding a new design. I have done all of the Alicia Keys and want something else that looks different. Any ideas? I live in Tampa, does anyone know of any good hair places here? I go to an African Hair braiding place.... and have been to another. I'm ready for somewhere new.

Ok, not sure about what you mean by freestyle braids... but almost all weaving hair can possibly tangle up, just deal with the brushing to get them out.. Unless you are buying expensive quality of cuticle hair and some remi hair, it may not tangle up as much. Whatever you do, just don't buy synthetic hair because though it is the most cheapest hair, that'll automatically tangle up in a minute.

Bo Derek had braids in 10, but why don't you see more white folks w/braided hairstyles, extensions %26amp; weaves? Especially, extensions %26amp; weaves...I mean, wouldn't that type of thing look good on any woman? I heard that white scalps can't 'support' tight braids %26amp; extensions, etc. The hair falls out.
