You might need to go to the bathroom or wash something out.

I would think so, I mean you need to wash your hands before you start touching someones hair. What if you had just eaten a donut or something, your customer would not like glaze in their hair. Plus, you need bathrooms.

I would sy so, its an issue of sanitation and disease controll..

even though it is only hair braiding, you still need sanitary facilities

Probably... What if you have to use the bathroom? Without running water you wouldn't be able to.

Maybe, I mean the braids might turn out better if the hair is washed first.

If you mean, do you need a beauticians sink...For braiding no. I used to work in a salon and quite a few people came in for extensions (which were braided in) and general braids, micro-braids, etc. A sink was never used in the process unless the client asked for a shampoo or if the client needed a wash or deep treatment. And I never recall a shampoo being given before braiding, I think because the hair already has the protective oils on it since braiding is a lot of work and stress on the hair, if you wash them out the hair is harder to work with and the oils aren'ts there for protection. It's good to still have one handy, you never know when you will need it. Hopefully you have a bathroom though...

Yes you do. Running water is required by the health department for the purposes of hygiene. To prevent the transfer of parasites, it is required that you wash your hands between clients and when you are handling objects whose cleanliness is suspect. It is also required that you clean your tools between clients and, as it often happens, when you drop them on the floor. In the cases where your hands come into contact with hair care products or chemicals, hand-washing is also required. I would expect that you would want to thoroughly clean the hair and scalp of your clients, before you begin braiding. It is difficult for your clients to effectively cleanse their hair and scalp with finished cornrows or braids, and they often wait until their next appointment to do it. it is also common to 'grease' the scalp before, and during, hairbraiding and it is recommended that you remove the old oils, and dandruff build-up , before applying new oils and conditioners. You've got to 'clean the kitchen' before you start cookin'!

Of course, you should. Check with your local rules and I am sure that there is something about this.

if you're charging for hair services you need to be a licensed cosmetologist, and there are a whole list of rules for salons that vary state to state....check with your state board of cosmetology
