No if you want to add a little curl to synthetic braids try this(it works-I've done it myself): Wrap hair around either newspaper or a paper bag like rollers and dip your hair in hot water let it dry and you will have a curl! As far as making the hair thin I'm not sure.

No, not without it melting. Just don't add in as much hair if you dont want it as bulky. If you were really, really careful you could smooth it out a bit by blowdrying on low with low heat. This is an aweful lot of work for such cheap hair. Personally I won't work with this stuff.
