truthfully anything that puts too much tension on the hair isn't good.ethnic hair tends to do alot bettrer with braids than other hair types.most ethnic hair hair has a different texture than others which allows hair to be braided and progress.i know it may sound gross but most african americans don't shampoo daily due to the fact that shampooing daily will cause the hair and scalp to dry out.with braids,the hair needs not to be shampooed often b/c it will cause frizziness.so i would say that depending on the ethnicity of a person determines whether or not braids can help the hair to grow.
