Can constantly braiding my daughters hair damage it?

She is bi-racial, and has had her hair braided ever since she was 3. She is 7 now. Her hair is very raggedy on the ends. Could the constant stress of braiding, and taking it out, have damaged it? A friend has done it for me these last 4 years, and by my daughters description of how she has been taking the braids out, sounds like she's been pretty rough on her hair. My daughter does not want her hair braided anymore, because she say's ,"it hurts..." So, I've stopped the braiding. So, just wondering- could all of this have been damaging her hair? My friend thinks not, I think she is wrong...

Your friend is VERY wrong! By braiding hair contantly it put pressure point son the hair and it WILL break off. My suggestion to you is to leave it down and let it heal. Also, use specific shampoos and conditioners for her particular hair type. With all the damage done to it, you are going to have to cut oof the dead and dry split ends to have any kind of managability to it at all. It is very hard to tell you EXACTLY what to do with her hair without seeing it, but I would suggest you take her to a salon that has EXPERIENCE with multi racial hair. There is a huge difference between her hair and ethnic hair! Muzzino is a great product line to use!! Good luck!

as long as the braids are not too tight where after you take out her hair, her face relaxes. that is not good.

loosen the braids.

Yes of course, the stress of it is making her hair split. Try to just leave it alone, so she can have healthy hair again.

apparently tight braids can damage your hair.. that may be the cause, or it could just be that it hasnt been cut in a while

um.. it could damage it if u do it all the time nd it prob hurts her bc its beeing done all the time

no not at all if u keep it braided then it will be beautiful and curly but it is so cute when u braid hair!!!!

I'd say it definitely wouldn't have helped the condition of her hair,as it's been being pulled tight when braided, and this certainly will have gave the hair many stress points and breakages in it.Glad to hear you have stopped as she asked.U sound a good mum :)

Your friend is horribly, tragically wrong. Of course it has been damaging her hair. You have to have a very specific king of hair for braids like that. Sounds like your daughter doesn't have that kind of hair.

Let your daughter's hair go natural :)

im bi-racial and my mom braided my hair all the time my hair is natrully curly and if i dont put hair oil in it it gets dry like straw but if you comb it through, put oil in it then braid it it helps but tell your frind not to braid to tight because the stress on a childs scap can be damageing in the futur and her hair may not grow back and may fall out and it will make her hair line recied like older men do. but let it breath and let wild for a while

its summer any way just put oil in it an let it flow give it a break to get her back to normal.
